District 87 school board member, Fitzgerald Samedy, was arrested for a third DUI Saturday, May 7th, 2022. He faces four felony charges, including driving under a suspended license (which was suspended for a previous DUI). He was released on $1,000 bond Monday the 9th.

Bloomington Police arrested Samedy, 35, at a traffic stop shortly after 8:30 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of South Evergreen Lane, and booked him on aggravated DUI charges. Samedy also is charged with drunk driving on a revoked license. When he was stopped, police said Samedy had a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and glassy eyes, along with slowed movements and slurred speech. Prosecutors also are seeking obstruction of justice charges, alleging Samedy refused to take a breathalyzer test.

According to WGLT reporting, court records show Samedy’s driver’s license was revoked in 2019, following a conviction for driving on a suspended license. He was convicted last July of driving on a revoked license and was given two years conditional discharge. Samedy has two prior drunk driving convictions on his record — in Cook County in 2009 and 2016.

Samedy won his seat in 2021. He had initially campaigned with local neo-fascist Jon Reed but distanced himself when a video was released repeating social media comments Reed had made including asking individuals to felatiate his scrotum. While school board races are nonpartisan, Samedy is a Republican Precinct Committeeperson, and the McGOP openly supported both Samedy & Reed.

In a Cities 92.9 Roundtable conversation, Samedy said masks mandates were EVIL! He famously said in that interview that he would not “allow any district or anyone to tell my child what they can or cannot do.” Unsurprisingly, Samedy seems to follow the same stipulations he has for his children where individuals don’t have to follow rules.

Samedy is due back in court for a hearing on May 27. He is innocent until proven guilty.
